1.Dear Bilal,
I can only request Dr. Sahib to answer your question as he knows best about the source of his meaning.
Myself and other friends have accepted the new meaning based on pure Reason and Logic; and because the old Rivayati meaning creates contradiction and ambiguities in comprehension and does not fit with its Context.
I may however still inform you that I have seen Dr. Sahib using two dictionaries particularly, although he is obviously using many of them. Those two are :-
Al-Qamoos Al-Waheed, by Maulana Waheeduz Zaman Qasmi Keraanwi
Lughaat ur Quran by Maulana Rasheed Nomani.

2.Dear Bilal, the same question was asked by Hafiz Abdullah, plz see my point of view at this topic.Let me reproduce as under. Brother Hafiz Abdullah! Regards, you asked for source/dictionary to under stand the sense of ZINA as a quranic terminology.I hope u have gone through the article written by Dr. Qamar zaman “zina quran key nazar main” where fohash has beeb described, sure linguistically it is not analyzed there, but this is the beauty of quran that it is not dependent of man written books only. See TABAYYAN AL QURAN and TASREEF AL AYAT,(also u must know the sense of QURAN AL ARABI AL MUBEEN)it means the quran explains it itself. Dear Abdullah observe the following points.1:-you should know the quranic terminologies FOHAS,SHIK,LIBAS AL TAQWA,QTL AL NAFS BEGHAIR AL HAQ(qatl al ambiya)2:-Know find the reason of qtl al ambiya(al nafs beghair al haq allati harramallah) in the quran. 3:-Plz read the “sora al furqan” from start to end then try to under stand the message in the context of whole sora ,the emphasis is at tawheed and denial of shirk. 4;- kindly see the verse 25/68 of same sora the attachment of ZINA with QTL AL NAFS.I think you will be satisfied knowing the sense of ZINA in here, as it is obvious with the start of the said verse.5:- Know you come to the verse 17/32 the ZINA is called FOHASH and again attached with the QATL BEGHAIR AL HAQ,the ZINA has nothing to do with QTL instead dawat al ambiya which is always against the fohash and shik had beeb attached with the tendancy of mushrikeen i e qtl al anbiya. 6:- As I’m not knowing much about lughat ,but I know the zani and mushrik have same mentality in their false deeds, whether with spouse or with Allahs commandments. The quranic context will determine the sense of terms used in quran.

3.Salam Respected Sister And Brothers,
In my new before you go through any dictionory in order to find out what exactly meaning of ZINA I sugest you to read Sura 17 verse from 23 to 39. You will know what is meaning of Zina.
in verse 23 Allah has started decreing laws and in the middle in verse 32 says WALA THAQRABU ZIINA INNAHU KANA FAHISHATAN WA SAA SABILA.
to understand Fahash you can see Sura 7 and verse 28 between this verse a sentence which says QUL INNALAH LA YAMUR BIL FAHSHAI. and SA SABILA I think you know what is the diffirence between SBILILLAAH and Sa SABILA.

4.Thank you brothers Abdullah Bashoeb and Moazzam,
for quoting very pertinent and self-explanatory references from the Great Quran.
Verily, Quran explains itself to people of vision and thought, without the need to go into lexicons.
God bless you.

5.Dear friends,
As we can see in surah Noor 2-3, the words Mushrik and zani set paralell to each other. What do they have in common ? Many Hindus dont allow sex out of wedlock....
It can be understood if we take a look at the word and the context in which it is used.
If Mushrik is someone who set partners with Allah or Allahs law, then Zani is Someone who distort the Quraniq word. Have a look at Edward William lanes project root list :
The word zina means : Zay-Nun-Ya = to mount, the mounting upon a thing, to commit fornication/adultery, fornicator/adulterer.
Seem to me that the Mushrik have a idiology equalized with the Quran , while a zani is "mounting upon a thing (the Quran),to distort the Quraniq meaning.
for example, the Quran never ordained stoning to death, but hadith does. The Quran never ordained beard as a part of Deen, but Hadith does, The Quran never ordained Namaz, but the hadith does...The Quran never told us to fast, but the Hadith does.....Hadith is "mounting upon the Quraniq laws".
According to our traditional view, the Quran is a disabled book which is dependent on the Hadith. Hadith is then mounted up on the Quran....which is Zina.....
plz correct me if im wrong.

7.Dear All
When a Zani or Zahia commit adultery/fornication, they are classifed with Mushrik because of the enormity of the
act and it's consequenses (possible pregnancy, single motherhood, teenage pregnancy, abortion, broken marriages due
to infidelty, losing respect in society, participating in an act that could give a harmful example to others, one-
night stands and dumping the women who gets deeply emotionally involved, running away from responsibility, etc.
etc.). A Zani or Zania decide to follow their own desires ignoring Allah's command and thus commit shirk.
Any dictionay of Arabic translates Zina as adultery/fornication. All decent societies of the world have laws
against it and nowhere it is seen as something to be proud of. Rather it is considered immoral. No father or
brother could tolerate his daughter or sister engaging in this kind of activity. As for fuwahish, it has a variety of meanings including indecent and obsence acts.
