Dear brother Adnan Khan,

The question of “DUAA” revolves around our fundamental faith and belief. For most of us who tenaciously follow the “BLIND FAITH” policy, there is little room for a debate or discussion on this question.
DUAA is often our last resort in our calamities and despair. It provides us hope and fortitude and often works as a moral and spiritual tonic whenever we are confronted with disappointments, difficulties and failures.
To assert that DUAA is useless in its present paradigm, drives us mad as if we have been deprived of our last hope and the only benevolent shelter that hung over our heads.
But since you do want to discuss it, let us together cruise the vivid chapters of Great Quran and see what it is trying to teach us in this respect.

The verse 2/186 says: “if my subject begs me that his demand be fulfilled, verily, I am near to him. I answer the call whenever called. So, answer me by obeying my commands and have full confidence in me. And in this way, you will be guided towards the way to success”. Simply meaning that Duaa (wishes, desires) is only fulfilled by following His discipline with profound belief in its results.

The verse 42/26 says: “He responds only to those who have full confidence/faith in his discipline and perform progressive/constructive deeds.” It clearly means that it is the faith and constructive attitude that essentially result into fulfillment of your wishes and aspirations.

The verse 27/62 says: “Who is He Who responds to a heart full of anxiety when it calls Him, and removes problems/difficulties. For this purpose, He makes you Lords of the earth”. Clearly, this is the divine method of redressing the grievances of the poor and the downtrodden, that he first grants the Quranic ELITE the seats of authority and makes them rulers. Evidently, only then the Quranic community can enforce the benevolent, welfare system over the population where all the fair desires and wishes are fulfilled.

Now my dear, very carefully read the saying ascribed to Hazrat Omar Farooq, who said: “O, people, be it known to you, why I have been put in the seat of Caliph (ruler)? This duty is entrusted to me so that I stop your DUAA from reaching Allah.”

I am sure from the above Quranic guidance, you can draw your conclusions easily.

Then, the question arises, what is the importance of DUAA? And, what is its result?
Allama Pervaiz very beautifully explained it. Whatever task we have to perform in this life, first of all its desire springs up in our hearts. A demand arises. The basis of every performance, undertaking, aspiration, is this internal desire. In the words of Iqbal:
The proof of our living is that we continue creating targets and afterwards:

The light and glitter in our lives is dependent upon the birth of desires within ourselves. It is the light of desires that enlightens our lives. The stronger the desire, the stronger our wills would be. And the stronger our will would be, the more intense our struggle to achieve our targets would become. It is a fact that man’s intensity of desires transforms his psychology in a way that his vision is changed. The more concentration he has towards his targets, the more energy keeps springing up from within. Then comes the stage where Iqbal says:
Then he said:

I hope, my dear, this lengthy discussion on DUAA would solve your problem.
God bless you.

The word ‘Dua’ (دعا) is from root letters (د ع و), the basic meanings are, to call, to invite, to ask. One has to see the context in which the word has appeared to get to the meaning of the word in the sentence.

Now the concept of ‘Dua’ in the religious concept is not described in Quran.
Quran says in 14/34

He has aleady provided what you are asking for.

Another reference from Sura AlBaqra Ayyat no 201
There are some people who say O our sustainer (Benovalent) give us excellent in this world and also in the world to come, and save us from the suffering of the Fire.

This is the most recited verse in any so called prayer or worship, and Molvi saheb never gets tired reciting again and again, but what he forgets is the answer of the God Almighty. Examine the answer of the Almighty which is continued in Ayyat no 202.
These people will have the share for what they have earned.

Look at the answer, does it not look strange? We are asking something from the God and the God refusing flatly rather saying that you will only get that share for which you have worked for.

Let me quote another Ayyat (3/193-195)

O our sustainer (Benovalent)we heard a call from a caller to accept eeman (faith) and we accepted .
O our sustainer forgive us from our past wrongdoings,Keep us away from bad deeds of the present ,and let our death be with the virtuous.
o our sustainer grant us that which you have promised us through your prophets, and donot disgrace us on the day of judgement.Indeed You never fail to fullfill your promise.
So the sustainer answered their prayer "I dont waste the effort of any person who makes a struggle, either a male or female. You are from one another. So those who migrated, driven away from their homes and suffered in my cause, fought and were forced to fight ,I will certainly keep them away from wrong deeds and shall most undoubtedly bestow upon them the gardens under their control. As a reward from Almighty. Indeed He has the most gracious rewards.

You can see for yourself God heard the prayer of a person who has accepted the right path and in reward he is asking :
1....to be forgiven for the wrongdoings of the past,
2....to be kept away from wrong deeds presently and
3....to be on the right path till death.

i.e. he is asking for every possible reward for the past, present and future. But he is not even satisfied with that he wants everything promised through prophets.....................................but look at the answer of almighty,

Do some work and get the reward weather you are a male or a female. No effort will be wasted of anybody. Do something and get the reward. Asking without doing anything is not acceptable.

Go and see the places wherever concept of ‘Dua’ is introduced in Quran, you will find people putting some effort first and then expecting the result.
