This word has appeard in Quran in two verses. 33/21 & 60/6.
In Sura 33 the topic of the sura is the Walayat-e-Rasool in reference to the governence of the prophet. Hence Uswa-e-Hasna of The prophet Mohammad is the life of prophet Mohammad in reference to his governence of the state.
whereas in Sura 60 Ayyat 6 the Uswa of prophet Ibraheem is mentioned in reference to declaration of his rejection to accept his peoples idealogy.

The word Uswa is from root letters (ا س و) the basic meanings of the root letters is to passify, to mediate between two parties to compromise, an example to follow.

The practical application is to struggle for a balanced socioeconomic system of justice based on morals values and commands of Quran.

Dear rehan khan i am a student of quraan i would like to share with you at this issue please. And requist to Dr Qamar sahib for correction,in 33/21 the name of rasool is not mentioned so this is not specific for only one rasool, although Walayat-e-Rasool in refference to the governance of prophit is under question at this point. The name of rasool for uswa-e-hasana for our entire life is IBRAHEEM even for all nabee & rasools, 60/4,22/78,16/123,4/i25,3/68,3/95,3/97,2/127,2/130,2/135,2/125.This is also correct in verse 60/4,6 the mater is specific in reference to declaration of ibraheem rejection to accept his peoples idealogy.

Dear Moazam slam,
u r alright that in 33/21 the name of rasool is not mentioned but ur inference is not right for before this inference there is need of consideration as who is titled/called as rasool-ulllah ( the messenger/rasool of God ) in this sura (sura Al-ahzab ).

Here is the answer .
Muhammad is called rasool-ullah ( the messenger/rasool of God ) in this sura (sura Al-ahzab ) verse no 40.
I may be wrong in inferring so need correction with clear guidance .
God bless u . thanks .

Dear hafiz Abdullah salam wa rahma alaik, the Quran is the guide book for ever. As sunnatullah never change, the entire lesson of sora 33 is the universal in all espects,it was in the pre Mohammad pbuh era and will be in post Mohammad era till the dooms day.So this order had been and will remain for every rasool/nabi.The importent point here is the clarification of 33/40.Thankyou very much Hafiz sahib, talib e ilm Moazzam.
