Dear Maniza,
Thank you very much for your help, but unfortunately i think the link you have sent is not about parda ( or may be my notion of parda is wrong). i want to know about the women dress code (which is named as parda in today's islam) in islam. i dont find a single ayat of women dress code in this pdf link. kindly send me something on the topic of women dress code.

thank you once again.

Salam and Blessings,
Dear Sis the link which i gave you containts also reference to parda.. but here is my meaning.

7:26 يَا بَنِي آدَمَ قَدْ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًا يُوَارِي سَوْءَاتِكُمْ وَرِيشًا وَلِبَاسُ التَّقْوَىَ ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ ذَلِكَ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللّهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ

O Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves and as an adornment, and the raiment of righteousness, that is better. Such are among the Signs of Allah, that they may remember."
20:121 فَأَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ الْجَنَّةِ وَعَصَى آدَمُ رَبَّهُ فَغَوَى

20:121Then they both ate of the tree, and so their private parts appeared to them, and they began to stick on themselves the leaves from Paradise for their covering. Thus did Adam disobey his Lord, so he went astray.

ONE: The best garment is that of nice, modest conduct (7:26).
TWO: Cover your chest in the presence of unrelated men. (24:31)
THREE: Draw a shawl around your person when outdoors in public. (33:59)

33:59 O Prophet! Tell your wives, your daughters, and women of the believers that they should draw loose fitting garments over their person (when in public) This is easy and proper, so that they may be recognized and not bothered. God is Absolver of imperfections, Merciful.

16:63 By God! We sent messengers to communities before you. But Satan, their selfish desires, made their acts fair-seeming to them. To this day he remains their patron, so they will have a painful doom.

49:13 O Mankind! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes so that you might (affectionately) come to know one another. Surely, the most honored among you, in the sight of God, is the one who is best in conduct. God is Knower, Aware.

2:224 وَلاَ تَجْعَلُواْ اللّهَ عُرْضَةً لِّأَيْمَانِكُمْ أَن تَبَرُّواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ وَتُصْلِحُواْ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَاللّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

And make not Allah's (Name) an excuse in your oaths against your doing good and acting piously, and making peace among humankind. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

6:54 When those who believe in Our revelations come to you, say, Salamun Alaikum (Peace be upon you! = Salutes to you!) Your Lord has decreed mercy upon Himself. Thus anyone among you who commits a bad deed out of ignorance, and then repents and makes amends should know that He is Forgiving, Merciful.

22:78 Strive hard in God's cause, with all the striving that is due to Him. It is He Who has elected you to carry the message and has placed no hardship in religion

To every nation God sent a messenger,

Every person who is peacefull, is a muslim.

There is no hardship in religion.

Women who are lewed and will go out of homes to commit lewd acts, cover their faces, so they may not be regognised, hence there is no covering of face in islam, it is dangerous A) if a women is raped, the witness cannot identify the woman who is raped. B) any woman covering her face can commit a crime and not be recognised.(it can also be a man who uses this garb to commit offences)
God just wants decent dress for women no matter which nation they belong to, He created us in different garbs and languages so we may enjoy each others diversity. Every nation must have modest dress coverings, no matter if its a man or a woman.

The jews and christians put their tranditions into their religions, the same as muslims have done... a jewish woman must cover her head as the same a christian woman is told to do in the Bible.. so you can decide for yourself what an islam code of dress is for a muslim woman, i have given you many ayahs from the Quran to reflect over.. last but not least a link where a brother has also written a small article... it is further down after another...

salaam, insha Allah, i shall surely let u know my understanding. i am too new to study the Quran. it is only 2.5 years since i started reading the translations of Quran and believe me i was so lost with so many different translations on the web. i started having sleepless nights 'coz of that. for that matter, ayat no:33:59 some have translated as wear your cloaks round u when u go out and some say lenghthen your garments. it is a lot of difference. wearing cloaks means wear something like burkha and lenghthen your garments means it can be even a skirt or full pants or punjabi dress or anything that is full length. that was the reason i asked about Dr. Sahib's understanding of those ayats. i thought probably even these ayats are mistranslated as were other imp ayats of haj, salat and sawm. i can read arabic (Quran) but cant understand a single word as the language is alien to me. I would be pleased if Dr. Sahib can briefly comment on the women dress code.

thank you and salaam again.

Salam and Blessings sis,

i talked to dr.qamar about this ayah, and has i have explained above his opnion is the same.. dress must be decent.. and yes when they say lengthen garments that means it can be a skirt or pants.. so even if we understand as thus, but considering another ayah where it says dont stamp your feet, and the other where you must cover your bossoms and the lower part, it would still mean that your private parts must not be seen when you go out.. for me a skirt is no problem if it does not reveal my private parts .. there are women in the middle east, egypt who were skirts but do so in a fitting manner .. as do other muslim women around the world..
so again for me , dress must be decent , no low neck or short skirts.. every society will have an unwritten code as to decency, except of course those that live in jungles.. it is what they are used to but when they merge into society they too change their dress code to what is acceptable as a whole.. especialy if you have looked at the native red indians of south america.. they wear clothes over bare bodies since they have opened up their society although they still live in mud or straw huts..

yes my dear i have had many sleepless nights aswell, but Alhamdulilah i had a mentor who showed me the way to the Quran.. and i would toss and turn and give counter arguments in my mind and to him over my traditional understanding and his.. but he always said you must think the Quran with logic.. if something does not fit that means the translation is wrong!
so here is a good tool which i used and that is certain subjects where found.. with online traditional translations, like typing in salaat or rasool etc.. it then comes forward with all the ayahs in the quran where it has these words.. then you read the previous and preseading ayahs.. so at least it gives you an idea what the Quran is saying.. then sis you have to remember a few ground rules..

1. God says it is His Book so no ayah can clash with each other..
2. Quran has around 28000 words.. Quran is simple, so if one word is used in one place it 99 procent of the time means the same in another ayah. called tasreef.
3. God says we must used sence/logic when we understand it .

another thing is get a good arabic english dictionary , i started to use Hans Werrs modern arabic english ,, it gives roots..
stay away from words which are translated by hadith..

anyway here are some links to quran search.. but dont use the bracketed info its from translators own thinking..
http://en.quran.nu/
http://www.ourbeacon.com/ modern translation.. mainly from Ullama Pervais.. makes more sence.. but some parts are still not true translations.. fks... AsSalaat, saum..
http://quranix.com/ both traditional and from ullama pervais/dr.shabbir

May Allah swt help us and Guide us.
