| Dear Pervez Bhai,
When Quran demands submission (Sajdah) to Divine Guidance, it is not restricting the AQL - the intellect at all.
Very simply, it is giving the right direction to AQL.
Aql when direction less, turns a human into a demon. It kills the human inside a man.
The problem is that Man is not a "permanent value" or an "unalterable yardstick". To make his AQL (intellect) the basis of the philosophy of life could not enjoy durability or permanence. For example, Democracy is the brain child of human AQL. Look at what havoc this Democracy is playing with the humanity. It has entered in league with the brutal capitalist mafia and humanity has been turned into a thing which is to be made profits from for amassing wealth at the cost of sufferings.
Iqbal's ISHQ is the total submission to Divine Guidance and to bring AQL under its subordination. Iqbal tried very hard to make people understand it. He lamented the highhandedness of AQL inspite of its being hollow in essence. He complained:
AQL HE BAY ZAMAAM ABHI, ISHQ HE BAY MAQAAM ABHI,
NAQSH GAR-E-AZAL, TERA NAQSH HE NA TAMAAM ABHI
And in praise of ISHQ, he says :
ISHQ SE PAIDA NAWAA-E-ZINDAGI MEN ZEER-O-BUM
ISHQ SE MITTI KI TASWEERON MEN SOZ DAM BA DAM
Then,
ISHQ FAQEEH-E-HARAM, ISHQ AMEER-E-JUNOOD
ISHQ HAY IBN US SABEEL, IS KEY HAZAARON MAQAAM
And,
AQL-O-DIL-O-NIGAAH KA MURSHAD-E-AWWALEEN HAY ISHQ
ISHQ NA HO TO SHARA'-O-DEEN BUTKADAH-E-TASAWWARAAT
And,
AGAR HO ISHQ TO HE KUFR BHI MUSALMANI
NA HO TO MARD-E-MUSALMAN BHI KAAFIR O ZANDEEQ
and finally,
DIYAAR-E-ISHQ MEN APNA MAQAM PAIDA KAR
NAYA ZAMANA NAE SUBH O SHAAM PAIDA KAR
Yeh hay Pervez Bhai "Ishq per ai'maal ki bunyaad".

| Dear Pervez /Aurang zaib bhai regards,as Allama Iqbal used the word ISHQ in his poems at countless places,some of it are quoted by brother Aurang zaib in his comments.We shuod know the essence of word ISHQ used by Iqbal.As we know the word ISHQ has not been used in Quran at any place,instead the word HUBB is used.In arabic the ishq is from the family of JUNOON which has been condnm strongly by Allah at many places in quran.Therefore, we should concentrate at HUBB which is the strong feelings of human inner.I think the Iqbal's ISHQshould be taken as the quranic term"HUBB".As for as AQL is concerns this is the very important subject of quran,so we must avoid to reject the supperiority of AQL in contrast with ISHQ.The HUBB with AQL and with out AQL could be seen in verse 2/165. | |

| Dear Brothers Pervez and Moazzam,
My comment is that ISHQ is obeying the Divine Guidance steadfastly.
Many pertinent references from Iqbal's Poetry about his use of the word ISHQ have been given above which are revealing. I think more elaboration is not needed.
However, members can try.
Poetry is not particularly admired by Quran because it unduly exaggerates the issues and crosses the borderline of rationality and proportion very often. We are much inspired by IQBAL and try to derive Quranic concepts from his poetry. I think that's not the right medium to understand the Divine Guidance. | |
